This 2007 Mark Wahlberg Action Flick Just Reached Netflix’s Top Movies List

If you recently headed to theaters to watch the action-adventure movie Uncharted, then you might be in the mood to see Mark Wahlberg in another fast-paced flick. Thankfully, Netflix has got us covered.

At the beginning of this month, the streaming service added a throwback to their film selection: Wahlberg's 2007 film Shooter. And this week, the movie raced up Netflix's list of most-watched movies, where it hit number eight on Monday.

In Shooter, Wahlberg plays Gunnery Sergeant Bob Lee Swagger, a Marine sniper who is hired to help protect the U.S. president during a potential assassination attack. However, when another diplomat gets killed and Swagger is framed, he must go on the run while trying to clear his name.

If the story sounds somewhat familiar, that's because the movie is based on a Stephen Hunter novel, called Point of Impact, which was published in 1993. Loosely based on the experiences of real-life sniper, Carlos Hathcock, the popularity of the book induced Hunter to continue the story of Swagger in eleven other novels (with the latest debuting a few months back).

Besides Wahlberg, Shooter features other major names, including Michael Peña (Ant-Man), Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon), Kate Mara (American Horror Story), Elias Koteas (Shutter Island) and Rhona Mitra (The Practice).

In addition to its star-studded cast, Shooter was directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Olympus Has Fallen) with a screenplay by Jonathan Lemkin (The Devil's Advocate, Beverly Hills, 90210).

With so many thrillers being added to Netflix these days, we think its about time we have a movie marathon.
