Everything We Know About Mark Ruffalo's Wife, Sunrise Coigney

While Coigney has been a constant figure alongside Ruffalo for most of his professional career, she’s also an actress herself. She had a few small roles in TV shows in the early 2000s, including In the Cut and Campfire Stories. The 51-year-old also starred as Brenda Ravelle in Line of Fire—a series that ran from 2003 until 2005. However, Coigney’s acting career slowed down when she opted to stay home and raise her family (more on that later).

Coigney has also dipped her toes into retail over the years. In 2017, she opened a summer boutique (stocked with artisan items she had collected over the years) called Sunny’s Callicoon Pop in Callicoon, New York. Although the store location no longer exists, she ran the online version of the boutique up until May 2023. The former model also owned a store called Kaviar and Kind in Los Angeles over a decade ago.

“I always knew I’d sort of find my way to retail—it’s where I find my joy: being surrounded by beautiful things,” she told WWD. “There are things that people can find scary or sad that I find quite beautiful. I can appreciate a cobweb.”

According to The Guardian, the two met on the street (literally) back in 1998, when the Marvel actor was in his early thirties. “I was living in a dump and didn’t even have a driver’s license or a credit card,” Ruffalo told Closer Weekly. “She thought I was a mess, but she believed in me and kept encouraging me. I don’t know if I would have made it without her.”

Not too long after they first met. However, according to the 13 Going on 30 actor, there was a slight issue because one of his close friends was interested in her as well. Yikes.

“All I had was my decency, wit and charm—I didn’t have anything,” Ruffalo told Men’s Journal. “When I met her, she was like, ‘You don’t have a driver’s license, you don’t have a credit card. What is wrong with you, dude? I can’t be with you!’ I was living in a converted garage, and she was there for that, she was game. She believed in me. She was like, ‘I know you’re a really good actor,’ and I was like, ‘You haven’t really seen me act yet.’ And she was like, ‘I just know it, I can tell.’”

When Coigney and Ruffalo were dating, they bought a house in the upstate New York area of Callicoon (where they still currently reside). It was a few years before Ruffalo decided to pop the question. Unfortunately, Coigney rejected his proposal, according to The Netline. But Ruffalo didn’t give up, and, after a while, he proposed again—this time, with a more successful outcome. The couple got hitched in 2000.

Ruffalo hasn’t confirmed if he’s bringing Coigney to the 2024 Golden Globes, but there’s a good chance she’ll make an appearance at the ceremony. In fact, she’s accompanied Ruffalo to multiple recent red carpet events, including the premiere of Poor Things.
