1. Is Greta Gerwig Directing a Narnia Movie?

Gerwig is actually set to direct at least two Narnia-based films, and will also serve as screenwriter.

The news was revealed in a New Yorker profile, where author Alex Barasch wrote, “[Gerwig] has a deal with Netflix to write and direct at least two films based on C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia.”

Thus far, it has not been revealed which books the films will borrow from. The Chronicles of Narnia series follows a group of children who discover the magical world of Narnia and are tasked with trying to save it from evil forces.

2. Which Books Will Greta Gerwig’s Narnia Movies Be Adapted from?

While news of the deal only recently broke, we have no other information about the plot of the films. However, Gerwig discussed the daunting task of adapting Lewis's books in an appearance on the Inside Total Film podcast.

“I haven’t even really started wrapping my arms around it, but I’m properly scared of it, which feels like a good place to start,” the California native said.

“I think when I’m scared, it’s always a good sign. Maybe when I stop being scared, it’ll be like, ‘Maybe I shouldn’t do that one.’ But yeah, no—I’m terrified of it. It’s extraordinary and it’s exciting.”

3. Will These Films Be Connected to the Previous Narnia Franchise?

In case you're unaware, there have already been three films adapted from the Narnia series of books: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005), The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008) and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010).

However, as far as we know, these new installments won't have any connection to the previous films, but rather, will serve as a reboot.

Back in 2018, it was first announced by Variety that there was a new, “multi-year deal between Netflix and The C.S. Lewis Company” involving films and TV series in the works. This deal marked the first time that one company held the rights to all seven books from the fantasy series.
