2. How Did Blanchett Meet Her Husband?

Blanchett met her husband on set at the Belvoir St Theatre in 1997, when she was starring in a production of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull. Believe it or not, they didn’t exactly hit it off. She told Vanity Fair, "He thought I was aloof and I thought he was arrogant. And it just shows how wrong you can be. But once he kissed me, that was that."

3. When Did They Get Engaged?

During her interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Blanchett confessed that she half-expected her husband to propose after just three days (yes, three days) of dating. She said, “We were in bed, as you are after three days, and he said, ‘Cate,’ and I thought, ‘He’s gonna ask me to marry him, and I’m gonna have to say yes.’ Luckily, it was a false alarm. “And then he said, ‘No, I’m hungry, do you want to go get something to eat?’”

Less than a month later, he popped the question for real. Blanchett said, “He asked me after about 21 days, and I said yes. I cooked him the worst meal. I somehow decided that to stuff a trout with walnuts and goat’s cheese would be a good idea,” she said. “He ate it and then he asked me to marry him, so clearly he was, I don’t know, hallucinating. He realized I couldn’t cook.”

5. Have Blanchett and Upton Worked Together?

Given their level of talent, it makes total sense that they’d join forces professionally. Blanchett and Upton founded their own production company, called Dirty Films, where they’ve worked on titles like Little Fish, A Manual for Cleaning Women, The New Boy and the Apple TV+ series, Disclaimer

While speaking with People magazine in 2008, Upton gushed about how much he loves working with his wife. He said, "It's great. We've always worked together in a way. You have your odd, 'No, no, no, we have to do this,' but in the end you can say, 'Oh, all right, I'll fight for that next year, then.' That collaborative approach is a really important part of theatre — it's a compromise that adds, not detracts."

6. Do They Have Any Children?

Blanchett and Upton are proud parents to four kids. They share three sons named Dashiell (born 2001), Roman (born 2004) and Ignatius (born 2008). The couple also adopted their daughter, Edith, in 2015.

While the parents keep their children’s lives private, Blanchett has discussed her parenting experience on a few occasions. Per Huffington Post, she told Working Mother magazine, “I love spending as much time as I can watching my children, playing 8with them, and being surprised by how fast they learn things and how they’re growing up.”

She continued, “It’s very important to me to be able to enjoy taking them to school or making their lunches or cooking dinner at home for my family. I also like being able to be the kind of mother who is not only there to take care of them and love them very dearly but also one who has a career. I think it’s important to set an example and show how the two can work together quite well.”
