Now that Anthony Bridgerton has found love with the whip-smart Kate Sharma, fans are already buzzing about season three. So far, we know that the series will deviate from the books and skip ahead to focus on Colin’s relationship with Penelope (per Variety).
But now, we want to know: Which Bridgerton sibling will take the spotlight next? Will Bridgerton season four focus on Benedict’s love story? And who will be in the cast? Keep reading for more details.
It sure has. In April 2021, before season two dropped, Netflix announced that Bridgerton was being renewed for seasons three and four. The streaming service confirmed the news through a letter penned by Lady Whistledown herself, who wrote, “Esteemed members of the Ton, It seems we have a special announcement. Bridgerton shall return for seasons three and four. This author will have to purchase more ink...”
Additionally, Bela Bajaria, Netflix VP of global TV, said in a statement that Shonda Rhimes and her team have “exciting plans for the future.” She continued, “We think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the Bridgerton business for a long time to come.”
Inspired by Julia Quinn’s namesake book series, the show follows the elite Bridgerton family as they navigate the social season and try to find love in 1800s London (also known as the Regency Era). The first season revolved around Daphne’s love story, while the second focused on Anthony.
While season three is still on the way, Rhimes revealed that there’s a lot more Bridgerton to come. “There are eight Bridgerton siblings, and as far as I’m concerned, there are eight Bridgerton seasons,” she told Variety. “And maybe more.”
It’s very likely that season four will be based on the third book, An Offer and a Gentleman, which focuses on Benedict and his relationship with Sophie Beckett, the illegitimate daughter of an Earl.
In the book, after Benedict meets and falls for a mysterious girl at a masquerade ball, he sets out to find her true identity, not knowing that she is actually Sophie.
It’s also important to note that seasons three and four will be helmed by a new showrunner, Jess Brownell. The news broke shortly after series creator Chris Van Dusen announced his departure after season two.
Season three is skipping ahead to Colin’s story, based on the fourth book, Romancing Mister Bridgerton. It will focus on the romance between Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), and it will premiere on May 16.
Details on the cast are currently unknown, but if Benedict does take center stage for season four, it’s safe to assume that Luke Thompson will return as one of the leads. However, Sophie’s character has yet to be cast.
Meanwhile, it’s possible that all of Benedict’s siblings will appear, including Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), Colin (Luke Newton) and Eloise (Caudia Jesse).
Netflix confirmed that season three will premiere on May 16. So since season four is still on the way, it could be a little while before we get a release date or a trailer for Bridgerton season four.
