This OG Dry Shampoo Has Been Saving My Hair During Quarantine

klorane dry shampoo category2

Recently I took a quick poll of my friends and asked: How often do you wash your hair in a week—especially during quarantine when we’re mostly at home?

It was an unanimous answer of two times.

The reason I asked in the first place was because my mom was ribbing on me for not washing it more often. (Her words exactly: “Is it just you or is your generation just not clean?” For context, my mom is a ten on the Monica Gellar cleanliness scale. In every sense.)

Anyway, I stand by my choices and I realized that I owe a great debt of gratitude to dry shampoo—specifically this one by Klorane, which I’ve been using for the last seven years.

Klorane, which is a cult favorite brand at French pharmacies, launched the world’s first ever dry shampoo 50 years ago. Initially created for new mothers in hospitals who didn’t have the time or wherewithal to wash their hair as often, it has since become a staple in many people’s routines because of how quickly and effectively it refreshes limp, oily strands. (Fun fact: the brand sells one bottle of dry shampoo every 10 seconds around the world.)

Klorane has three different formulas in their lineup (including tinted options for darker hair), but my go-to is the one with nettle because it seems to absorb oil the best for me.

I’ve used it after runs and HIIT workouts. I’ve taken it with me on camping trips and hikes. I’ve seen it work magic in different climates and seasons. Before a night out (back when we were doing things like going to bars) and before countless Zoom meetings over the past year.

It delivers every single time. You just have to use it correctly. The instructions are on the back of the can, but I’ll lay it out here again for easy referencing.

Step 1: Shake the can really well, as if you are a heavily biceped bartender making a cocktail.

Step 2: Hold the can at least 10 inches away from your roots and spray it in short, even bursts.

Step 3: Let it absorb for about two to three minutes.

Step 4: Brush out the excess.

When you follow the steps, you’ll notice that your hair actually feels lighter and cleaner, and not weighed down or sticky from the spray (which is a common complaint against the stuff).

If you’re ready to give dry shampoo a first try or a second chance, now is the time. Klorane is currently offering two travel sized dry shampoos, two samples and free shipping on orders $50 and up with code: HAPPY50 (in celebration of their 50th anniversary and National Dry Shampoo Day).
