10 Genius Beauty Tips We Learned on TikTok

FYI: TikTok is an absolute treasure trove for comedy, dance routines and bite-sized beauty tutorials that truly anyone can follow. Here are ten of our all-time favorite makeup and hair videos that have seriously upgraded our routines.

The Best TikTok Accounts for Moms to Follow (Because Your Kids Shouldn’t Have All the Fun)

1. Inner Lining Our Lips

Sure, slightly overlining your lips to create the illusion of a fuller pout isn't anything new, but adding some liner to the center? Genius. Tip: If you prefer a subtler look, use a liner and lipstick shade that are closer in color.

2. Lifting Your Entire Face Using Just Concealer

Traditionally we only used concealer to, well, conceal. Which is why we mostly use it under our eyes (to cover up dark circles) and over any splotchy areas (like around our nostrils) to neutralize redness. This tutorial shows that we can get so much more out of our concealer by adding it strategically to key areas like the outer corners of our eyes and mouth to lift the entire face. Seriously, it's mind boggling.

3. Using Your Hand to Guide Blush Placement

Blush can make a world of difference when it's applied correctly—and by that, we mean finding the best placement for it. An easy guide? Your hand. See the magic in action above.

4. Contouring Your Nose

Here's the thing about contouring: When done correctly, it can really bring out your features and give you a sharper looking profile. This tutorial gives helpful pointers on contouring your nose in a way that looks natural—like depositing color along the front of the brow bone, which is often neglected, and using some foundation to buff out any obvious lines to finish.

5. Twirling Your Mascara Wand for Better Definition

We're always looking for better ways to maximize our mascara and this tip is the best one we've come across in 2022. Rather than wiggle and brush your mascara wand through your lashes, slowly rotate the wand as you blink and pull the bristles through.

6. Refreshing Patchy Foundation

You know when your foundation starts to look dry and cakey after a few hours of wear? There's an easy fix for that. Just mist a makeup setting spray onto a sponge and dab it over any patchy areas to refresh your overall complexion.

7. Smudging Your Eyeliner

This one goes out to anyone who struggles with their eyeliner. For a foolproof and fast method, grab a pencil liner and apply a dab of it onto the pad of your index finger. Then, press your fingertip against the outer corners of each eye. (If you need to clean up the lines a bit, go over any wonky bits with concealer.)

8. Quickly Adding Volume to Limp Roots

All you need is a rat-tail comb (a pen or chopstick will also work). Use the end to create a zig zag part down the center of your head to quickly add volume to flat roots before you head out the door.

9. Nailing Your Cat-Eye Flick

If you prefer a perfectly crisp and angled flick, we've got you. Rather than trying to, ahem, wing it in one swoop, break it down into three smaller sections: the outer corners, the middle and the inner corners.

10. Highlighting the Right Spots

This tutorial shows you exactly where to apply highlighter (and how much) to make your features go from "flat to popping." Most notably, you want to concentrate the highlight right above where your cheeks protrude from your face when turned to the side and blend out the shimmer to create a sort of ombré effect.
