Your Weekly Horoscopes: April 23 to 29, 2023

It’s the week between eclipses and Mercury is retrograde. Tides are shifting and everything feels up in the air—it’s OK not to feel OK. Mars sextiles Mercury retrograde on the 23rd—an aspect that last went exact on April 8th and could bring some ideas from earlier in the month back to the table. Take this moment to observe rather than act too quickly.

If you’re looking for consistency, it will be hard to find, but there’s a glimmer of hope when the sun sextiles Saturn on the 25th. (Taurus queens Penelope Cruz, Katharine Hepburn and Janet Jackson all have this stable as a rock aspect in their chart.) Then on the 29th, Mars sextiles innovative Uranus bringing initiative and inspiration while helping us embrace change. The pieces aren’t meant to fit together yet but keep them laid out on the table. There’s more to be revealed!

(Horoscopes follow for each sign. If you know your rising sign, reading for that sign too will provide further insight.)

The 3 Most Gullible Zodiac Signs (and 3 Who Rarely Fall for a Lie)

Cheeky illustrations of a girl of color in a purple shirt and overalls with a baby ram over her shoulders. She is smiling and so is the ram. The overall color is purple—purple background, pink ram with purple horns and the girls is wearing a purple shirt. Her hair is in a messy bun.

Aries

(March 21 - April 19)

In this week between eclipses, your assignment is to tidy around the house. That goes for spring cleaning as well as taking the time for your quarterly phone call to Grandma. The simple act of cleaning up and clearing out yields some unexpected abundance on the 29th. Pocket that $20 you find in the couch cushions and save it for the next rainy day.

This week’s mantra: “Clear.”

Cheeky illustration of a young non-binary person petting a bull.

Taurus

(April 20 - May 20)

With Mercury retrograde happening in your sign, you may notice this time period being more personal than usual. This is less about tech snafus and more about approaching people, places and problems from your past. A run-in and subsequent coffee date with an old friend on the 23rd helps you work through something that you’ve been struggling to figure out alone.

This week’s mantra: “Forgive.”

Cheeky illustration of identical twins with long dark hair and a statement earrings back-to-back, smirking at each other.

Gemini

(May 21 - June 20)

With Mercury retrograde happening in your unconscious sector for the next few weeks, it’s OK to stay at a remove. If you can’t shake that sense of urgency, take an inventory of everything that’s on your mind and consider what needs to be done now and what can get done next week or even in a month from now. As your to do list gets shorter, take more time to rest, dream and envision.

This week’s mantra: “Wait.”

Cancer

(June 21 - July 22)

With crabby Mars in your sign, you’ve been dealing with your fair share of anger and inflammation over the last few weeks. As Mars connects with Uranus on the 29th, you have the opportunity to channel that frustration into something productive: uniting with friends over a shared goal or common cause. Remember: energy is neither created nor destroyed. You can’t waste it.

This week’s mantra: “Unite.”

Cheeky illustration of a woman of Asian-descent wearing a sheer coral top with her hair half-up in pigtail puns, the rest down. She is hugging a lion, who is smirking.

Leo

(July 23 - Aug 22)

You’ve been struggling to focus on a job search or steady the course in a new role, and though this week doesn’t solve all your problems, you get some solid assurance on the 25th that you’re on the right track. This could come in the form of some extra income, a supportive chat with a coworker or assurance from your boss. Though the details aren’t clear yet, you’re on the right track.

This week’s mantra: “Assure.”

Cheeky illustration with a light blue background of a woman wearing a coral shirt coyly poking out from behind her hands.

Virgo

(August 23 - September 23)

Mercury retrograde continues this week in your travel and higher learning sector. While things are crunchy in between eclipses, this is a good time to take an online class, start a new novel or binge a full documentary show: something complex and detailed to give you perspective outside of your own tiny world. There’s so much to explore! Don’t box yourself in just to avoid charting a new path.

This week’s mantra: “Explore.”

680x400 Libra@2x

Libra

(September 23 - October 21)

Your assignment this week is to take a good hard look at both your finances and your stuff. There’s probably quite a lot of clothes in your closet that don’t spark joy. Could you pass those cowboy boots onto someone who would actually wear them? Could you sell that record player to someone who actually buys vinyl? Scale down your stuff to make room for what you actually like.

This week’s mantra: Purge.”

680x400 Scorpio@2x

Scorpio

(October 22 - November 21)

Next week brings the final eclipse in your sign. After a year and a half of refining, sculpting and transforming your self-image, you’re finally starting to settle into the new you. This week, your assignment is to spend time expanding your mind. Why not take that French class at your local bookstore? You might meet a new friend or lover while you learn.

This week’s mantra: “Adventure!”

Cheeky illustration of a Black woman with purple hair on an orange background. She's in a wearing jean jacket, with a quiver strapped across her back and arrows sticking out.

Sagittarius

(November 22 - December 21)

Though everyone around you might be struggling during this Mercury retrograde, you’re feeling content staying in your own lane. Sticking to your routines, prioritizing deadlines and spending your spare time on self-care and with your pets boosts your energy and your confidence. You even have more space to give support to others! Don’t worry about getting ahead—just try to find your rhythm!

This week’s mantra: “Organize.”

A cheeky image of a woman of color with dark hair holding a pink goat by the horns. The background is pink and her shirt is darker pink.

Capricorn

(December 22 - January 19)

Mercury retrograde is bringing all kinds of ex-lovers back into your life. Your favorite ex is at your coffee shop, your worst ex is on the sidewalk outside your office, and that other ex you totally forgot about is sliding into your DMs. Remember: this doesn’t mean you should get back together, just that the universe is sending you a message about what it is you want. Review your notes. What are you really looking for in a connection?

This week’s mantra: “Past pleasure.”

Cheeky image of a Black woman with blue hair on a light blue background. She's holding blue water in her palms, which is bubbling up and taking shape as her hair.

Aquarius

(January 20 - February 18)

You want smoother skin, but are you sticking to your skincare routine? You want a new job, but are you putting your feelers out? This week is all about walking the fine line between working hard and making things easy. Follow what excites you so you don’t burn yourself out. As Mars connects with innovative Uranus on the 29th, you finally figure out a calming arrangement for your home office. Start with small changes and keep moving.

This week’s mantra: “Arrange.”

Cheeky illustration of a gender-fluid white person with short-cropped orange hair. They're wearing a light blue halter top as two bright pink koi fish circle their head.

Pisces

(February 19 - March 20)

Since Mars entered Cancer back on March 25, both your romantic life and creative endeavors have been heating up. This week, your assignment is to introduce that hot date to your friends, challenge yourself to write a poem a day or sign off from work early and head to a movie you’ve been dying to see. It’s time to bring pleasure into the forefront of your life. Make having fun part of your routine.

This week’s mantra: “Just dance!”
