3 Zodiac Signs That Are Handy Around the House (& 2 That Swear By TaskRabbit)

handy zodiac signs

Who needs to hire an electrician to install a dimmer when you can pull up a video of a random 16-year-old on YouTube explaining it step by step? But not everyone has the time (read: patience) or wherewithal to learn how to fix the plumbing or spackle the windowsills. Perhaps astrology has something to do with it. Here’s our definitive list of the signs who are handy around the house (and the others who will hire a TaskRabbit in a heartbeat).

The 3 Handiest Zodiac Signs

1. Virgo (August 22 – September 22)

You could say that Virgos embody the song “Fix You” by Coldplay so, of course, they’re experts at fixing things around the house. Virgo is ruled by Mercury—the planet of communication and technical skills—and as our mutable earth sign, they find comfort in assembling moving parts. Virgos aren’t at peace until everything has found its place so once they start a project around the house, they’re going to finish it. Unlike Capricorns who might start dismantling the plumbing one weekend only to get bored and move on to something else before the job is done.

2. Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

I spent my entire childhood watching my Aquarius mom doing projects around the house after she spent her childhood watching her Aquarius father do the same thing. Astrologer Sam Reynolds jokingly calls Aquarians “Winter Virgos,” and I think this speaks not only for the sign’s predisposition toward order, cleanliness and (tbh) frugality, but also for having the patience that one needs to get nuts-and-bolts-types of things done. Lots of people may dream about fixing their own plumbing, grouting their own tiles or painting their own kitchen cabinets, but Aquarians might be the only sign stubborn enough to go through with it.

3. Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

The Cancer love of fixing things around the house comes less from any particular technical prowess, and more from their desire to feel connected to their space. I had a Cancer roommate once who noticed I was upset with my tiny bedroom’s dirty window. We lived in an old building, and it would basically require disassembling the entire unit to wash it. But without blinking an eye, she Googled the best methods and then spent an afternoon helping me clean so I would feel more comfortable. When I moved out of that apartment, another Cancer moved into my old room and immediately installed shelves, mirrors, etc., instantly improving the space in ways that I never had the energy to accomplish. Cancers want to be nourished in their space and take initiative to make it happen.

The 2 Least Handy Zodiac Signs

1. Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

Though Pisces are more enterprising than most give them credit for (ask what your boss’s birthday is—we bet she’s a Pisces!), they still avoid handling small projects around the house like the plague. Pisces are big picture people, so when they’re faced with something maddeningly specific (and confusing!) like IKEA furniture directions or hanging a gallery wall, their brains check out. I’m a Pisces myself and once spent a dizzying few hours trying to assemble a Floyd couch with a fellow Pisces friend. We eventually gave up and called a Virgo for help. That said, Pisces are amazing handiwork assistants and will take directions from a spouse, roommate or friend. Just please don’t make them handle it alone!

2. Leo (July 23 – August 22)

Leos are who some might call the “divas” of the zodiac, so if there’s one activity they don’t have time for, it’s fixing things around the house. It’s Leo Kim Cattrall who famously said, “I don’t want to be in a situation for even an hour where I’m not enjoying myself.” You’ll much sooner catch a Leo hiring a TaskRabbit (and tipping profusely) before spending any amount of time looking into how to hang shelves on their own. Leos take pride in their own talents and, in turn, only work with the best. If you’re someone who hates doing handiwork yourself, definitely get recs for technicians from your Leo friend!
