Exclusive: Zooey Deschanel’s Secret to Parenting? Wonder Woman

Judging from the box office numbers, everyone and their mother (or should we say daughter?) loved the 2017 film Wonder Woman. Included in that group is Zooey Deschanel’s 3-year-old daughter, Elsie. So, when the 39-year-old 500 Days of Summer star needs a little persuasive help with Elsie, she looks to Diana Prince.

PureWow spoke with Deschanel exclusively about her new Come as You Are campaign for Crocs (the LiteRide Pacer Crocs are her favorite), and she opened up about how rocking Crocs has made juggling motherhood and a thriving career a little bit easier. (Comfort is key, people.) But they aren’t the only tool in her arsenal. Deschanel admitted, “I use Wonder Woman to my advantage a lot.”

Deschanel went on to explain that when Elsie isn’t in the mood for broccoli or something kids don’t naturally gravitate toward, the mom pulls a What-Would-Wonder-Woman-Do. Spoiler alert: It works like a charm.

“I always have to stay ahead of my 3-year-old…So I use Wonder Woman a lot because she really likes [her],” Deschanel explained. “I tell her that [Wonder Woman] can’t fight bad guys unless she eats lots of vegetables. If that’s not motivating, then I tell her that her hair won’t grow unless she eats her vegetables.” Honestly, that a pretty foolproof strategy.

Thus far, the Wonder Woman save-all hasn’t quite worked with her 2-year-old son, Charlie. But, hey, at least there’s a sequel right around the corner.
