Sterling K. Brown Majorly Pulls at Our Heartstrings in New ‘Waves’ Trailer

Sterling K. Brown’s latest project is making waves for all the right reasons.

A24 just dropped the first full-length trailer for the critically acclaimed movie Waves, which stars the This Is Us actor, 43, as a patriarch named Ronald. According to Entertainment Weekly, the drama has been dubbed a “breakout hit” after premiering at the Telluride Film Festival, and we’re thinking of it as an indie version of the popular NBC series.

The trailer opens on Ronald reciting a popular Bible verse. The video goes on to introduce his two children, Tyler (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) and Emily (Taylor Russell), who are beginning to realize that their lives aren’t as perfect as they seem.

“I’m trying to give you the tools to succeed in this world,” Ronald says in the clip. “It’s not easy out there. Everything I do is for y’all. Everything.”

When the family reaches their breaking point, Ronald is the driving force that pulls them back together. “Lord knows I’ve held onto way too much hate in my life,” he says. “But all we have is now. All we have is now.”

Waves is written and directed by Trey Edward Shults (It Comes at Night). The movie also stars Lucas Hedges (Ben Is Back), Alexa Demie (Euphoria), Renée Elise Goldsberry (Altered Carbon), Krisha Fairchild (The Killing of John Lennon), Clifton Collins Jr. (Westworld) and Neal Huff (Spotlight).

Randall Pearson, ladies and gentlemen.
