Tom Hanks Speaks Out About Tim Allen Not Voicing Buzz in ‘Lightyear’

Tom Hanks is sharing his thoughts on whether Tim Allen should have starred in Lightyear (instead of Chris Evans).

The 65-year-old actor recently sat down for an interview with CinemaBlend and addressed the recent controversy over Evans replacing Allen as Buzz in the new Lightyear movie. Hanks (who voiced Woody in the original Toy Story movies) explained that his new film Elvis competed against Lightyear at the box-office, and it didn’t feel right.

“How about that?” he said. “Actually, I wanted to go head-to-head with Tim Allen, and then they didn’t let Tim Allen do it. I don’t understand that.”

Although he didn’t seem thrilled about Allen’s replacement, Hanks offered a diplomatic response. “But here’s the thing: Just as long as people come back to the motion picture theater,” he added. “I want to go back into the theater with a bunch of strangers and leave with something in common. That’s what I want to do.”

The interview has surfaced about a week after Allen spoke out about his lack of involvement. “There’s really no Toy Story Buzz without Woody,” he told Extra. “I’m a plot guy. It would seem to be a big adventure story, and as I see it, it’s not a big adventure story. It’s a wonderful story, it just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy.”

Allen continued, “It’s a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies.”

We’d love to hear Evans’s thoughts about this.
