NBC Just Renewed ‘This Is Us’ for Three. More. Seasons.

Good news, TV aficionados. If you were deeply disappointed by a certain character’s shift in the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones, then rejoice in this good news.

NBC just renewed This Is Us for three more seasons. And while it’s not necessarily surprising, it’s definitely exciting.

The news came courtesy of NBC co-chairman Paul Telegdy during an upfronts press call yesterday. He explained, “We’re keeping it open for now. Creator Dan Fogelman has a plan for the show, for now it’s being picked up for three more seasons.”

Like the first three seasons of This Is Us, the upcoming three will consists of 18 episodes each. So, that’s at least 54 remaining episodes of our favorite ugly-cry show.

A three-season pick-up doesn’t come along every day (the last time it happened was when Big Bang Theory got an additional three-season order in 2014). What’s more unique about this news is that the third season ended on April 2 and we’re just getting confirmation the show will return now. According to Deadline, this may be because Fogelman just recently re-upped his studio contract.

Fogelman celebrated the three-season order with a series of tweets expressing his excitement.

The 43-year-old creator tweeted, “Three years ago, we were live tweeting the premiere of our TV show, hoping someone, anyone might watch…Today, our friends at @nbc picked up #ThisIsUs for THREE more seasons, bringing us to six.”

He went on to write, “It is an amazing show of support, and [sic] it due to the hard work of the 300+ talented, kind people who have devoted the last three years of their professional lives to our show.”

Finally, he issued a PSA about one of the show’s most controversial characters.

“It’s also due to our impassioned, dedicated fans. Some days you guys hate Miguel, some days you guys love Miguel, but we ALWAYS love you,” Fogelman tweeted. “Except Miguel, who takes it day by day. Congratulations to all involved. We can’t wait to get back to work. #ThisIsUs.”

All we can say is watch it, Miguel.
