‘The Matrix 4’ Is Happening & Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss Are Both On Board

It’s official: Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are re-entering the Matrix.

The two stars are set to reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity, respectively, in The Matrix 4, according to Variety. Although not much is known, we do know that Lana Wachowski will return to write and direct the upcoming movie.

Toby Emmerich—chairman of Warner Bros. Picture Group—announced the news today during a press conference. “We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana,” he said. “Lana is a true visionary—a singular and original creative filmmaker—and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.”

Wachowski will co-write the script alongside Aleksandar Hemon (The Lazarus Project) and David Mitchell (Would I Lie to You?). She’ll also serve as an executive producer along with Grant Hill (The Tree of Life).

The Matrix originally premiered in 1999, followed by The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions in 2003. In addition to Reeves and Moss, the franchise also stars Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus), Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith), Monica Bellucci (Persephone), Jada Pinkett Smith (Niobe) and Nona Gaye (Zee).

While Warner Bros. hasn’t released any further details about a title or premiere date, the film is expected to begin production in 2020.
