Taylor Swift’s ‘Lover’ Just Dethroned ‘A Star Is Born’ for a Highly Coveted Honor

Earlier this week, Taylor Swift released her seventh studio album, Lover. And now, the 29-year-old singer is dethroning Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper for a highly coveted spot.

Lover has officially surpassed the A Star Is Born soundtrack as this year’s top-selling album in the U.S., as Billboard reports. Here’s a breakdown of the data, which was gathered by Nielsen Music:

Swift released her new album on Friday, August 23. Two days later, Lover was already closing in on 500,000 sales, making it the top-selling album of 2019. *Mic drop*

The soundtrack for A Star Is Born previously held the record as this year’s best-selling album, with approximately 444,000 sales. (Although it has sold a total of 1.1 million copies in the U.S., this estimate only accounts for 2019—not 2018.)

It’s also important to point out that these numbers were pulled on Saturday, only two days after Lover hit shelves. Since Swift’s last studio album, Reputation, sold 1.2 million copies in its first week, many believe that her new release is just beginning to take off. Thanks to inspiration from her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, perhaps?

The news comes almost two months after Swift earned the number-one spot on Forbes’s list of the world’s highest paid celebrities. According to the outlet, the singer made $185 million (pre-tax) this year, so dethroning A Star Is Born is probably just another notch in her belt. Casual.

We never thought we’d say this, but we really need to calm down.

Wait, Did Taylor Swift Basically Copy Her Teen Choice Awards Outfit at the 2019 VMAs?
