Dear Screen Actors Guild Awards, what possessed you to snub This Is Us in the ensemble category…again? Was it because Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) is less present, or you don’t like the new direction the showrunners are going in? Is it because you’d rather ignore Rebecca’s (Mandy Moore) impending memory loss or Kevin’s (Justin Hartley) brush with death? What is it, pray tell?
When the SAG committee announced today that, after winning Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2018, This Is Us would not receive a nomination for the second year in a row, we were frankly surprised. Sure, the hit NBC series isn’t quite as good this season as it’s been in the previous four. But, really? It’s still one of the most finely crafted TV shows on air with one of the most diverse and relatable on-screen families.
Instead, Better Call Saul, Bridgerton, The Crown, Lovecraft Country and Ozark are facing-off in the race for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
On the plus side, Sterling K. Brown (Randall) was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series (again), but we can’t help but feel that the rest of the cast was robbed this year.
