The Farm’s Secret Is Out & Here’s What It Means for the Future of ‘Riverdale’

Last night’s episode of Riverdale finally gave us some answers about Edgar’s (Chad Michael Murray) involvement with The Farm. But how will his secret impact the future of the show?

Here’s what you need to know: On Chapter Fifty-Two of Riverdale, titled “The Raid,” Betty (Lili Reinhart) gets invited to The Farm for a welcome interview. When she doesn’t hear back, she enlists Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) to do the same.

Betty listens to the audio tapes from Cheryl’s interview and discovers the secret to The Farm’s allure. When Edgar interrupts and asks to speak to Cheryl, he leads her into a broom closet just as the tapes screech to an end.

Later on, Cheryl reveals what—or who—was in the closet: Jason (Trevor Stines). As in her dead twin brother, who was killed in season one by her father, Cliff (Barclay Hope).

Confused, Betty confronts her mom, Alice (Mädchen Amick), and demands to know why she joined The Farm. Alice admits that Edgar “brought my son back,” which means she’s been seeing Chic (Hart Denton) this whole time.

So, what does this mean for the future of the show? It could go two ways. First, Edgar could be some psychic guru that is able to bring people back from the dead, which—in that case—we’re in serious trouble.

Or it could be a scam similar to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy in Chapter Forty-Four. (You know, when they fed the patients Fizzle Rocks and made them think they were seeing the Gargoyle King, when—in reality—it was a hallucination.)

Either way, they had us at Chad Michael Murray. Riverdale returns to The CW on Wednesday, April 17, at 8 p.m.
