Queen Elizabeth Shares Throwback Photo in Honor of Archie’s 1st Birthday (& Tosses in a Couple Emojis for Good Measure)

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have stepped down as senior royals, but that doesn’t mean they have beef with Queen Elizabeth. In fact, the 94-year-old monarch just celebrated Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s birthday on Instagram.

Today, the queen shared a special tribute on her official social media account (@theroyalfamily) in honor of Archie’s 1st birthday. The photo was taken after the baby’s christening at Windsor Castle and features Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Harry and Markle’s mom, Doria Ragland, admiring the newborn, who is cradled in the duchess’s arm.

The caption read, “Happy Birthday to Archie Mountbatten-Windsor who is celebrating his 1st birthday today! Archie is The Queen’s eighth great-grandchild,” along with two birthday-themed emojis.

This isn’t the first time Queen Elizabeth wished one of her great-grandchildren a happy birthday on social media. Last month, the monarch celebrated Prince Louis’s year by sharing pics of the toddler completing a rainbow art project.

We’re just happy the royal family fact-checked Archie’s birthday post, since Prince Louis’s had a blatant error. (ICYMI: The caption referred to Louis as “the queen’s seventh great-grandchild” when he’s actually the sixth. Whoops!)

Earlier today, Prince Harry and Markle celebrated Archie’s birthday with brand-new footage of their son. The clip features the duchess reading the children’s book Duck! Rabbit! to Archie as he sits on her lap.

A bedtime story and a special message from the queen? Archie’s 1st birthday will be awfully difficult to top.
