It's been over 15 years since Princess Diana passed, but according to her ex-butler, Paul Burrell, there are still some things that she would've wanted her sons to know about her life. Now, her former confidante feels ready to share them with Prince William, 40, and Prince Harry, 38.
In a recent interview with The Mirror, Burrell said, “I know some of it isn’t pretty, but if I leave this place and go somewhere else they’ll never know...I think they should know.”
The Mirror notes that Burrell is someone who Lady Di used to consider her “rock,” and he revealed to the publication that he is about to have surgery for prostate cancer, which has influenced his motivation for talking with the two princes.
“My illness has focused my attention on telling the boys things before it’s too late—telling them what they really should know,” he said. “I think Diana would say to me, ‘Paul, you must make this a priority. You must go and see my boys.’”
Burrell worked for the Princess of Wales for the final 10 years of her life. “She confided in me and there are many things I have never spoken about, but now I feel the time is right,” he said.
The former royal worker also sees this as an opportunity to bring the two brothers together. Although things have been somewhat tense between Prince William and Prince Harry throughout the last few years, Burrell added, “I think what I have to say could bring the boys back together, which Diana would have desperately wanted. I will only tell them the truth, that is all. I am not looking for anything in return.”
While Burrell did not give any specific details about what he had to share, we sure hope that he gets the chance to talk with Prince William and Prince Harry.
