Here’s Why This School Year Will Be Major for Princess Charlotte

Princess Charlotte has a major year ahead, and we’re not just talking about turning eight. Turns out, the only daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton will reach two major milestones during this upcoming academic year.

According to Hello! Magazine, the 6-year-old will be heading into her Year 2. The U.K.’s Year 2, which is for children 6 to 7 years old, marks the last year of lower-level primary school—that’s pretty much the equivalent to our last year of elementary school.

Per Hello!, U.K. primary schools are sometimes divided into two stages, Years 1 to 2 and Years 3 to 6. The first two years are also referred to as infant or lower levels, while the older group is known as junior level. According to Oxford Owl, Year 2 sees “continued focus on phonics” and children are “introduced to fractions.”

And that’s not all. Hello! reports students in their second year also take SATs (not those kinds, don’t worry). These tests—called Standard Assessment Tests—are given both at the end of Year 2 and Year 6 to evaluate children’s academic progress.

If you didn’t know, Charlotte has been attending Thomas’s Battersea, a private school in London, since she started primary school back in 2019. And Year 3 might be just as exciting for Charlotte. In September 2022, the princess will join her big brother, Prince George, in the junior years.

Congrats, Charlotte! We can’t believe how fast you’re growing up.
