In Unprecedented Move, Prince William & Kate Middleton Visit Healthcare Workers Amidst Virus Outbreak

Prince William and Kate Middleton surprised royal fans on two fronts today.

For one, the 37-year-old Duke of Cambridge penned a personal Instagram caption and secondly, he and the 38-year-old duchess visited with the staff at an ambulance call center to convey their gratitude for all their hard work amidst the coronavirus outbreak.

The Cambridges shared a photo series of themselves meeting with staff from the London NHS 111 call center (while keeping distance between them and others) on their @KensingtonRoyal shared Instagram account.

Prince William captioned the slideshow, “Catherine and I were proud to visit staff working at NHS 111, to pass on our personal thanks, along with those of my grandmother and father, to staff working around the clock to provide care and advice to those that need it most.”

He went on to muse on what life has been like in the wake of the virus, saying, “The last few weeks, and more recent days have been understandably concerning with the continuing spread of coronavirus. But it’s at times like this when we [realize] just how much the NHS represents the very best of our country and society—people from all backgrounds and walks of life with different experiences and skills, pulling together for the common good.”

William also took the time to encourage the public to support the healthcare workers: “Not only are NHS staff and emergency workers responding to the needs of the public, they—like the rest of us—are concerned about their families, friends and loved ones. They need our support as much as we need theirs. All of us have a part to play if we’re going to protect the most vulnerable.”

He signed off by encouraging the public to act “on the latest expert advice, staying home if we or those we live with have symptoms, and avoiding non-essential contact to help reduce the spread of the virus.”

Judging from William’s message to the public, these uncertain times have led the royal family to be more personal than they typically are. Queen Elizabeth, for instance, penned a powerful note addressing the British people’s ability to come together and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took a moment to encourage everyone to practice kindness.

In uncertain times, we have to commend the royal family’s dedication to bringing us all together.
