Prince Charles is officially 73 and the royal family celebrated in the best way they know how—by releasing an official portrait.
The Prince of Wales rang in his big day on Sunday and was showered with well wishes from friends and family, including Prince William and Kate Middleton, who shared a snap of the future king and wrote, “Wishing a very Happy Birthday to the Prince of Wales.”
In honor of the milestone, Charles posted a new portrait on the Instagram account he shares with his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles. In the snap, he is seen sporting a blue pinstripe suit and sitting on a bench at Highgrove. “Thank you for the kind birthday wishes for The Prince of Wales today.”
Fans and followers quickly filled the comments section of the post. One user wrote, “Beautiful picture of the birthday boy!! I wish him all the best and a very good new year,” while a second added, “A Very Happy Birthday to The Prince of Wales today. Have a great year ahead Sir!”
This year, the prince’s birthday fell on Remembrance Sunday, during which Charles and other members of the royal fam attended special services. For the London ceremony, Charles, Camilla and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge laid wreaths to honor fallen veterans. Unfortunately, due to a back sprain, Queen Elizabeth was not in attendance.
