After a massive palace wedding and four receptions, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are ready to relive the magic of their nuptials.
No, the couple, who wed last December, isn’t renewing their vows (yet). Instead, the 37-year-old The Sky Is Pink actress and the 27-year-old singer are introducing a new reality series that highlights the most fun chapter of a traditional Indian ceremony, the Sangeet. If you’ve yet to experience a Sangeet (or you awkwardly weren’t invited to Priyanka and Nick’s), it’s a ceremony for friends, family and the bride and groom that includes a night of celebratory singing and dancing.
But it’s not just an “everyone hit the dancefloor” kind of affair. During a Sangeet, the wedding parties prepare a choreographed dance that really wows the crowd.
Chopra reflected on her and her husband’s decision to executive produce the new Amazon series telling Variety, “We re-watched the video of our Sangeet last week on our first anniversary, and the togetherness of our family and friends during this event still sparks the same warmth and excitement that it did just over a year ago at our wedding.” She went on to explain the relevance of the ceremony, saying, “The Sangeet is a centuries-old Indian wedding tradition, that not only celebrates the union of two people but also signifies the introduction and bonding of two families coming together in a marriage.”
