Natalie Portman Shared a Rare Childhood Halloween Photo (& We're Still Trying to Figure Out That Costume)

There’s nothing we love more than a good ol’ Halloween costume guessing game. However, one of Natalie Portman’s childhood costumes has left us, well, confused.

In honor of the holiday last week, the Thor actress shared a rare throwback photograph of herself as a child dressed up for the occasion. In the pic, she’s wearing a black-and-white checkered top, a pink skirt and a black, witch-like hat. Portman topped off her look with a large black bow-tie and red rosy cheeks. “Any guesses what I’m dressed up as here? #fbf #happyhalloween,” she captioned the Instagram post.

If we’re being honest, we’re still a bit stumped. And by the looks of the comments section so are a majority of followers. But a handful of fans did come up with some pretty logical guesses including Matilda, the Queen of Hearts, Raggedy Ann, a ventriloquist and even Charlie Chaplin.

However, a few individuals got very creative with their guesses, one writing, “The offspring of Dorothy AND the scarecrow?!” with another adding, “A child of Salvador Dali or Little Debbie...” How clever.

The throwback pic comes a few short weeks after the 39-year-old actress appeared on an episode of the Mom Brain podcast, where she discussed never-before-heard details about growing up as a child star. Portman admitted that she feels “very lucky” to have started when she did because the experience taught her invaluable life lessons.

“For me, it was something that I really wanted to do,” she said. “My parents were super protective, always by my side. I really had an incredible experience where I got to play and travel and meet interesting people and be exposed to a lot of ideas and cultures that I think I never would have had the opportunity to.”

Now, if we could only ask Natalie’s parents exactly what this costume was supposed to be...
