‘Pose’ Star MJ Rodriguez Makes History as First Openly Trans Actress to Win a Golden Globe

We would love to know how MJ Rodriguez is celebrating her monumental Golden Globes win right now.

Last night, the 31-year-old star was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Television Actress – Drama Series, thanks to her stirring performance in the final season of Pose. With her win, Rodriguez made history as the first openly trans actress to be awarded a Golden Globe and as the first trans actor in any category to snag a win.

The star, known for playing Blanca Rodriguez-Evangelista on the series, celebrated the moment on her Instagram account. She said, “OMG OMGGG!!!! @goldenglobes Wow! You talking about sickening birthday present! Thank you! This is the door that is going to Open the door for many more young talented individuals. They will see that it is more than possible. They will see that a young Black Latina girl from Newark New Jersey who had a dream, to change the minds others would WITH LOVE. LOVE WINS. To my young LGBTQAI babies WE ARE HERE the door is now open now reach the stars!!!!! @goldenglobes.”

Rodriguez closed her spirited message by praising her fellow nominees, saying, “To the nominees we are Queens. I’m so happy to share space with you! Each and every last one of you women are phenomenal.”

She also took to Instagram Live late last night to celebrate the moment and repeat the messaging of her post. She started out by mentioning the LGBTQIA+ community and saying, “This is not just for me, this is for y'all!” She then thanked the members of the cast and crew, adding, “There were no acceptance speeches so I'm gonna give it here: I am very thankful to the many beautiful people that came together with this show.”

At this point, Rodriguez is used to making history. In the summer of 2021, when she was nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series, she became the first transgender woman to be nominated in an acting category.

So well deserved. Congrats, MJ!
