First-time mom Mindy Kaling found a sweet way to honor her late mother as she begins her own parenting journey.
The Wrinkle in Time star named her daughter, Katherine Swati Kaling, after her mother, Dr. Swati Chokalingam, who lost her battle to pancreatic cancer in 2012.
This isn’t the first time the actress has given a touching nod to her beloved mom. Kaling based her The Mindy Project character’s profession off her real-life mom’s, who was an ob-gyn for 30 years. In a sad twist of fate, Kaling learned of her mom’s passing just as she found out that The Mindy Project had gotten picked up at Fox.
We love the sweet sentiment that little Katherine’s name holds, and we bet her grandma would too.
