Mike Johnson on ABC Naming Matt James the Next Bachelor: ‘Don’t Feel Bad For Me’

When ABC named Matt James the first-ever Black Bachelor, we immediately thought of Mike Johnson, who totally deserved the highly coveted position. However, Johnson wants to make one thing clear: There are no hard feelings.

Over the weekend, the Bachelorette alum, 32, posted a candid video on Instagram, where he congratulated James before telling fans “don’t feel bad for me.”

“I just want to give a huge shout out to Matt James,” he says in the clip. “I definitely texted him earlier, but I want to show him love and shout him out publicly as well.”

Johnson goes on to address recent gossip claiming he deserved to be the Bachelor—not James. The BiP star says that while he’s thrilled for James, he’s busy working on an untitled self-help book.

“Don’t feel bad for me at all. I am just so elated. I have so many things coming down the pipeline,” he explains. “I hope that you enjoy my book, I have so much to talk about.”

Johnson also encourages fans to support James when The Bachelor premieres sometime in 2021, adding, “Quite honestly, be happy, baby. Don’t say nothing bad about my homie. Matt’s going to do a great job.”

Hey, there’s always next year.
