Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton were noticeably absent from pictures of Prince Charles's fancy schmancy Buckingham Palace dinner last night...and there are a few good reasons why.

While Amal and George Clooney attended the event, which was put on by Prince Charles to honor the Prince's Trust, a charity founded by Charles that supports at-risk youth, the duchesses were both not in attendance.

Middleton, for her part, had her own event to attend at the National Portrait Gallery. The duchess stepped out in a repurposed Alexander McQueen gown for the Portrait Gala. Since she's a royal patron for the gallery, it seems responding with a "no" RSVP to the gala just so she could attend her father-in-law's star-studded dinner was out of the cards.

From the pictures, it seems Markle and Prince Harry were notably absent as well. Though, with the Duchess of Sussex nearing eight months of pregnancy, a night off from the fancy formal dinners, dresses and heels sounds totally understandable.
Of course, it could be that while Markle and Prince Harry were there, they decided to opt out of the photos and only attend the actual dinner portion instead.
We're just hoping she's not still wearing four-inch heels to these things (though, chances are slim).
