Meghan Markle Reveals the One Inspiring Quote She Used to Hang in Her Room

Meghan Markle is no stranger to criticism, but the duchess also happens to be a pro at fighting back against negativity.

While speaking with Fortune for their virtual Most Powerful Women Summit, Markle discussed the issue of online misinformation and shared how she's been staying positive despite the rumors and constant negativity.

She said, "There are always going to be naysayers. But at the end of the day…you know, I used to have a quote up in my room many, many moons ago and it resonates now perhaps more than ever when you see the vitriol and noise that can be out in the world. It’s by Georgia O’Keefe and it’s: 'I have already settled it for myself so flattery and criticism go down the same drain and I am quite free.'"

Markle continued, "The moment that you’re able to be liberated from all of these other opinions, of what you know to be true, then I think it’s very easy to just live with truth and live with authenticity and that is how I choose to move through the world."

Since Markle has dealt with a lot of scrutiny and toxic behavior from important figures, it's only fitting that O’Keefe's quote would still resonate with her to this day.

The Q&A comes about a week after the duchess and her husband, Prince Harry, made their first TV appearance from their backyard and encouraged Americans to vote. On ABC's Time 100 special, the duke also spoke out against harmful online gossip and said, "It's vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity. When one person buys into negativity online, the effects are felt exponentially. It's time to not only reflect, but act."

Kudos to these two for using their platforms to make a difference!
