EXCLUSIVE: Kristen Bell Spills the Tea About the New ‘Veronica Mars’

The return of Veronica Mars is still months away (ugh, July 26), but Kristen Bell says it’s definitely worth the wait.

The 38-year-old actress caught up with PureWow yesterday, thanks to her partnership with the American Express Blue Cash Preferred card (it gives you cash back for streaming subscriptions—you’re welcome). Naturally we had more than a few questions about the upcoming Veronica Mars revival and Bell was more than happy to share a spoiler or two.

She kicked things off by confirming the series pushes the boundaries more this time around. “I’ve seen all eight [episodes] now. I’m very excited and I’m also terrified because there are a lot of things that happen in the series—I’m choosing my words very carefully—that people will have strong feelings about,” Bell teased.

And since the series has evolved, it’s safe to presume Veronica has as well. That’s definitely the case in the trailer that dropped last week.

Bell explained, “She’s grown up a lot, and if it’s even possible, she’s become a little more jaded because I think the world around her has become harsher. It was already harsh when she was in high school, but now she’s dealing with problems that a woman deals with.”

So, what does that entail? Well, as Bell put it: “The show has grown up. You are watching Veronica swearing sometimes and actually having to draw a weapon, unlike she did in high school, and having a healthy sex life. It’s like, ‘Oh, that’s what a woman participates in and this is not a high school show anymore.’”

Still, the core of Veronica Mars remains the same. “Ultimately, it’s a show about the haves and the have-nots and I don’t think it’s ever been more relevant to explore that dynamic and the dwindling middle class than it is right now,” Bell reasoned.

Let the countdown begin.
