Jodie Comer Recalls That One Awkward Time a ‘Killing Eve’ Fan Asked Her to Strangle Them

PSA for all Killing Eve fans: Not all actors are like their characters IRL. Just ask Jodie Comer, who plays Villanelle in the critically acclaimed BBC America series.

Over the weekend, the 26-year-old Killing Eve star visited The Graham Norton Show in London and revealed the, um, strange ways her life has changed since she snagged the role of Villanelle. Spoiler alert: It’s not all glitz and glamour.

She began by telling the show’s host, “A lot of people just look at me and think ‘Is it her?’”

But not all fans simply make awkward eye contact with Comer. Some brave souls even ask her to slip into character right then and there. (Keep in mind that her character is a sociopathic killer with a stalker-level fascination with the MI6 agent investigating her.)

She recalled an interesting recent interaction with a fan, saying, “Someone asked me for a photograph and I was like, ‘Yeah, sure,’ and was posing for the photograph. And then she just quietly whispered in my ear, ‘Will you strangle me?’ And it was like, ‘Ummm.’ My publicist at the time was like, ‘No.’” Right decision, Jodie.

Awkward fan encounters aside, Comer says she’s been highly focused on bringing her A-game for seasons two and three. “There is a lot more pressure because of expectations and everyone is waiting on tenterhooks for it to come out, but once you start filming, you just have to put that to one side,” she explained.

All we can say is that her asphyxiation-seeking fan must feel pretty mortified right now.
