Kelly Clarkson Refuses to Start Filming Her Talk Show Each Day Until This Happens

As Kelly Clarkson prepares to launch her very own talk show, the 37-year-old singer is opening up about how she’s planning on making time for her family.

In this week’s issue of People magazine, the proud mom discussed her upcoming NBC-syndicated series, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and revealed that she worked out a deal with the network, so she could still drop off her two children—River (5) and Remington (3)—at school.

“When we were doing the schedule for the show, I was like, ‘I have to drop my kids off at school.’ And I’m always the one who puts them to bed,” she said.

So, NBC scheduled the show’s tapings for the late morning when Clarkson had completed her carpool drop-off. “You just have to prioritize and juggle and make people know it’s an important thing,” she added. “And don’t feel guilty about it.”

Clarkson’s husband, Brandon Blackstock, also has two children from his previous marriage, Savannah (18) and Seth (12). According to the “Stronger” singer, their “blended family” makes her strive to be a better mom.

“I’m never going to be that person that tries to play off like I’m some kind of Stepford wife,” she continued. “We’re a blended family. We work very hard at that.”

When asked what her children think of her new talk show, Clarkson confirmed that they’re already making special requests. “Our 3-year-old doesn’t get it but the 5-year-old, she’s very clever,” she said. “She’s already asked that I have Chris Martin on to sing ‘Yellow.’ It’s her favorite song.” Who knew Coldplay appealed to toddlers?

The Kelly Clarkson show will premiere on Monday, September 9.
