Why Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Outing Yesterday Was Such a Big Deal

Introducing the new Prince and Princess of Wales…

According to People, Kate Middleton and Prince William (formerly known as simply the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) visited Sandringham this Thursday, where they saw 30,000 flower bouquets, letters and other tributes dedicated to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The recent outing allowed the royal couple to meet longtime royal admirers and it also was a huge deal as it marked their first solo appearance since becoming the Prince and Princess of Wales. The couple’s new royal titles, previously held by King Charles and his former wife, Princess Diana, were given to the married couple after the queen passed away at the age of 96.

This latest appearance comes after Middleton and William changed their official social media handles across all of their joint accounts. Sparking the change, Charles bestowed his former title onto his oldest son, saying, “Today, I am proud to create him Prince of Wales. With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations.”

Aside from the new titles, their roles within the royal family have changed as well. By looking at the line of succession, William is now the first in line for the throne and his oldest son, Prince George, is second in line.
