Kate Middleton Used Her Signature Parenting Move at Last Night’s Royal Variety Performance

Kate Middleton is doing what she does best, her signature parenting move.

Whether the 37-year-old Duchess of Cambridge is speaking with her own children or chatting with kids at a royal engagement, she always bends down to meet their eye-line. And at last night’s Royal Variety Performance in London, she did just that.

Middleton arrived at the event (alongside hubby Prince William) wearing a floor-length gown by Alexander McQueen. The dress featured a black lace overlay with a sweetheart neckline.

While there, the duke and duchess chatted with the performers, along with executives from the Royal Variety Charity. They also enjoyed the show, which doubled as a televised fundraiser. After the performances, however, the couple took a moment to thank the performers (on stage), a moment which the @KensingtonRoyal Instagram account documented with photos.

In the first snap, we see Middleton bending down to speak to a young girl and older performer (who is also in the same squatting position). The rest of the photos show the royal couple shaking hands with others, smiling and enjoying the show.

See the slideshow below.

Why does she do this move? Well, making eye contact with children fosters open communication. By meeting kids eye-to-eye, the duchess doesn’t assert her dominance and instead encourages children to express themselves on equal terms.

This is the third time the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have attended the Royal Variety Performance. (They previously made appearances in 2014 and 2017.)

Looks like even on date-night, the duchess is still in parenting-mode.
