How Did Kate Middleton Celebrate Her 38th Birthday?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle nearly broke the internet earlier this week, but the royal family won’t let the surprise announcement overshadow another special event: Kate Middleton’s birthday.

Amid the royal drama, the Duchess of Cambridge celebrated her 38th birthday yesterday (January 9) with friends and family at Kensington Palace.

Middleton arrived at Kensington Palace wearing a sporty green puffer coat. (It’s her birthday, and she doesn’t have to smile for the cameras if she doesn’t want to.)

Unfortunately, no further details have been released about the festivities that occurred within the palace gates, but we do have a general idea of the guest list. Confirmed attendees include Prince William (duh), Princess Eugenie and Middleton’s parents, Carole and Michael. The couple’s three children—Prince George (6), Princess Charlotte (4) and Prince Louis (1)—were also in attendance.

To no surprise, Prince Harry and Markle passed on attending the celebrations. Although we don’t know if Queen Elizabeth was present, all signs point to no, since she’s currently doing damage control at Buckingham Palace.

Middleton originally kicked off her birthday celebrations earlier this week when she and Prince William joined the queen in Sandringham for the morning church service at St. Mary Magdalene. The couple brought along an entourage of guests, who were staying at the royals’ country home at Anmer Hall in Norfolk in honor of Middleton’s birthday.

Bet she’s really glad they started celebrating early.
