Even Jennifer Garner Admits to Hating Zoom School

Jennifer Garner is getting candid about how she and her three children—Violet (14), Seraphina (11) and Samuel (8)—are coping during the coronavirus pandemic.

The 48-year-old actress appeared on today’s episode of Mom Brain, where she chatted with podcast hosts Hilaria Baldwin and Daphne Oz about how she’s navigating self-isolation. Although Garner confirmed her family is “doing great,” she admitted that her kids “didn’t always feel OK.”

The Alias alum explained that honesty and organization were two main factors in establishing a new routine. “When it first started, I kind of started us off with a ‘we can do hard things’ dinner conversation,” she said. “And with a notebook open—I always have one—with a notebook open, and like, ‘Let’s talk about what we’re going to need to do to be successful. And we’re going to need to be really kind with each other and give each other space.’”

Garner also revealed that small tasks help maintain the status quo, adding, “We know that the way to feel better is reaching out. So, who in our church, who in our lives, can we be giving to in order to feel better? We know that we need to be safe. We’re gonna clean on Saturdays. Like, we just made a plan. And we didn’t always follow it, but it gave us something to go back to.”

The actress admitted that her children are handling the pandemic in different ways—like Seraphina, who initially struggled with the transition to Zoom school.

“My middle daughter started saying to me, ‘Mom, my brain is repelling anything the teachers ty to tell me over Zoom. I’m not hearing it anymore,’” Garner continued. “And God bless her teacher, who showed up in our driveway to talk her through because she was like, here is this brilliant student, this amazing brain and brilliant student, and she’s failing everything. And so, we had to really, you know, drill down together, how are we going to make this work for her?”

Celebrities, they’re just like us…even when it comes to failed homeschool lessons.
