Jennifer Garner Documented Her Attempt to Make a Snack from Her Personal Garden & It Didn’t Quite Go as Planned

Jennifer Garner is using her impressive sunflower garden to make a delicious snack (for her chickens).

Last week, the Alias star shared a video on her personal Instagram account of herself harvesting sunflower seeds in order to bake them for a salty treat. However, it’s clear from the clip that things didn’t go according to plan.

“Sunflower seeds come from sunflowers,” she captioned the post. “I know—[mindblown emoji]. Emboldened by the success of the nice man on YouTube I gave it a try and so here you go.#mikemadeitlookeasy.”

The three-minute-clip began with Garner harvesting the seeds from the giant plants. She then brought them inside her gorgeous, not to mention massive, kitchen to rinse and soak them overnight. The following day, the 48-year-old actress removed the seeds and spread them along paper towels to dry them out. It was then that she learned she had made a few mistakes, including harvesting them too early and soaking them for too long. Whoops.

That didn’t discourage Garner, however. She continued with her plan and baked the tiny seeds in the oven. The end result? None of the casings actually contained seeds...so she opted to use the attempted snack as bird feed. Hey, A for effort.

This isn’t the first time we’ve gotten a look at the Love, Simon star’s impressive garden. She shared a first glimpse earlier this summer in a series of social media posts.

“Another week, another chance to [sunflower emojis],” she captioned the video of herself rummaging through her plants. “(Come on, July.)” Garner was all smiles as she rocked a gray sweatshirt and a rainbow wristband.

It’s clear we weren’t the only ones impressed by her gardening skills. The post quickly gained over two million likes and comments, even from fellow celebs. Kat Dennings commented, "Look at that sunshiney queen!! And the sunflower’s nice too."

Since the beginning of quarantine, Garner has filled our social media feeds with a variety of content, including new episodes of her Pretend Cooking Show, a throwback video of herself recovering from dental surgery (see above), clips of herself completing a handful of viral challenges and, of course, an at-home recreation of Home Movie: The Princess Bride.

You’ll master the sunflower seeds next time, Jen.
