R.I.P. Khal Drogo: Jason Momoa Shaved His Beard (and We Barely Recognize Him)

With the end of Game of Thrones looming near, we’re being forced to say goodbye to many things. Currently, that’s Jason Momoa’s facial hair.

Yep, Khal Drogo is no more (well, again). The 39-year-old GoT and Aquaman actor just shaved his beard and documented it all on video for posterity.

In the clip,he says, “I think 2012 is the last time I shaved.” Seven years. Sev-en.

But apparently, it wasn’t just for looks. On YouTube, Momoa explained his reason for making the change: “I’m shaving this beast off, it’s time to make a change. A change for the better...for my kids, for your kids, the world. Let’s make a positive change for the health of our planet. Let’s clean up our oceans and our land. Join me on this journey. Let’s make a switch to INFINITELY RECYCLABLE aluminum. Water in cans, NOT plastic.” Confused? Same. Beard shaving equals environmental cause? OK.

“Most importantly, I just want to do this to bring awareness that plastics are killing our planet,” he said in the video. “And if we have a solution, I don’t want to bitch about it. There’s only one thing that can really help our planet and save our planet as long as we recycle—and that’s aluminum.” Apparently, Momoa created his own line of canned water to contribute to his environmental cause.

While the internet is up in arms about the new look, we have to be honest...we don’t hate it. And considering it’s for a good cause, we can’t really complain. But from what we can tell of Momoa’s own reaction in the video, it looks like he’s still getting used to his newly naked jawline. Hey, seven years is a long time.
