‘Januhairy’ Is Empowering Women to Grow Out Their Body Hair

Have you ever heard a guy talking about Movember and thought (either genuinely or sarcastically), “Gosh, I wish I could get in on the fun?”

If so, you’re in luck, friend, because ladies now have our own version. It’s called—get this—Januhairy.

Started by Laura Jackson, a student at the University of Exeter in the U.K., the movement encourages women to embrace their body hair by growing it out for the whole month of January.

In an Instagram post, Jackson explained that, after growing out her body hair for a performance as part of her drama degree, she started to think about the taboo of body hair on women. “This isn’t an angry campaign for people who don’t see how normal body hair is, but more an empowering project for everyone to understand more about their views on themselves and others,” she added.

If the more than 4,000 Instagram posts tagged #januhairy are any indication, more and more women are ditching their razors.
