The trailer introduces viewers to Matt, who’s struggling to raise his daughter on his own. Although his family is trying to convince him to move closer to them, Matt is determined to figure it out.
“If you could have only one parent, I wish you could’ve had your mom,” he says in the clip. “She would’ve been better at it. And mommy was the best.”
The film documents his fatherhood journey, beginning with the newborn stage and transitioning into Maddy’s (Melody Hurd) childhood. The feel-good story line seems primed to pull on the heartstrings, so you may want tissues at the ready.
In addition to Hart and Hurd, Fatherhood also stars Alfre Woodard, Lil Rel Howery, DeWanda Wise, Anthony Carriganan and Paul Reiser. Although the story is based on Two Kisses for Maddy: A Memoir of Loss & Love by Matthew Logelin, Dana Stevens (Life or Something Like It) and Paul Weitz (American Pie, Little Fockers) wrote the screenplay.
Fatherhood will hit Netflix on June 18 (AKA Father’s Day).
