The tat simply read "de Gosling," which many fans took as a sweet tribute to her partner. But considering how notoriously private these two are, we figured that this extremely rare glimpse into their relationship held a deeper meaning.

While appearing on Channel Nine's Today in Australia, the star casually referred to Gosling as her "husband."

Per Elle, she said, "Everyone is so welcoming here and my husband Ryan is here and we are having the best time."

Also, when Mendes was asked about her marital status on the Kylie and Jackie O podcast, she implied that they've actually been married for way longer than fans realize. She said, "Who says we weren’t already? I like to keep it all mysterious. I’m a very mysterious woman.”

As for that romantic tattoo, it turns out the actress got it "years ago."
