Ryan Gosling Teases What Fans Should Expect from the ‘Barbie’ Movie

Now, let’s be honest. Some of us haven't been able to stop talking about the Barbie movie since the exclusive set photos and promo posters began surfacing. The anticipation for this live-action adaptation has been higher than ever. And now, one of the film’s stars, Ryan Gosling, is opening up about what audiences should expect from the upcoming film.

The La La Land alum will play Barbie’s plastic doll boyfriend—Ken—and will star alongside Margot Robbie in the movie. In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight, Gosling gave audiences a little sneak peek into the plot: Instead of Ken living a life of glitz and glamour, he actually is down on his luck.

“That Ken life is even harder than The Gray Man life, I think,” the actor said, referring to his new Netflix project. “Ken's got no money, he’s got no job, he’s got no car, he’s got no house. He’s going through some stuff.” (Well, that’s a picture we didn’t expect to see.)

One burning question that has been on everyone’s minds is: What is Barbie about? Warner Bros. has done a pretty good job keeping the plot under wraps—and Gosling is making sure it stays that way.

Without giving too much away, The Gray Man actor said it’s a movie people wouldn’t expect. “It’s not what you think it is, unless it is,” he said. “And then you know what it is, but I don’t think that’s what you think it is. Wait, what are we talking about?”

Gosling added, “That’s all I can say, otherwise Mattel will come in and box me up.”
