First, Disney announced that Emma Stone is set to play Cruella de Vil in an all-new movie. And now, the studio is looking to add another famous Emma to the cast.
According to Variety, Emma Thompson is in early talks to star alongside Stone in the upcoming Cruella flick. Although Disney hasn’t released any further details about Thompson’s role, we wouldn’t be surprised if she somehow assists the titular character in carrying out her puppy-stealing acts.
Not much else is known about the forthcoming film, though it was initially pegged as an origin story set in the ’80s. Stone will portray the infamous villain—a role that was originally played by Glenn Close in the 1996 live-action movie, 101 Dalmatians.
Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) will direct the film, with Marc Platt (Mary Poppins Returns), Kristin Burr (Christopher Robin) and Andrew Gunn (Freaky Friday) serving as executive producers. Although Dana Fox (How to Be Single) penned the first draft of the script, Tony McNamara (The Favourite) wrote the most recent version.
