Dolly Parton Reacts to Spinoff of ‘Jolene’ That Got the Golden Buzzer on ‘America’s Got Talent’

Plenty of stars have covered Dolly Parton's hit song, “Jolene,” over the years, but a new girl group called Chapel Hart just gave the track a brand-new spin. The trio auditioned on a recent episode of America's Got Talent, where they sang an original song titled “You Can Have Him, Jolene.” And the performance ended up being such a smash that the Mississippi-born singers were awarded the Golden Buzzer, which automatically sends them to the next round of competition.

“We've always been country music fans and Dolly is by far our favorite,” they said as they introduced the song. “Dolly for President!” one of the members jokingly added. “We were so inspired by the song ‘Jolene’ and we just love the storyline. And we figured though, from 1973 to 2022, we could not still be fighting over the same man, so we decided to tell her: ‘You can just have him, Jolene.’”

Throughout their entire performance (as seen in the video above), the entire crowd was standing, and once the song was finished, the audience started chanting “Golden Buzzer!” However, throughout the 17th season, each of the individual judges had already used their one chance to press the buzzer, so they decided to use their one group Golden Buzzer to send the trio along.

“That was fantastic,” Simon Cowell said after the performance. “Trust me, I needed you today.”

In addition to the praise from the judges and the cheers from the audience, Parton ended up showing her love for the song as well on Twitter. She wrote, “What a fun new take on my song, @ChapelHartBand!” Meanwhile, she also made a joke about her husband, Carl Dean, adding, “Carl's birthday is today so I think I'll hang on to him, and I'm not notifying Jolene that today is his birthday [winking emoji] #AGT.”

You know it's high praise when it comes from Dolly. Congrats, Chapel Hart!
