Dolly Parton Turns Her Hit ‘Jolene’ into a COVID Vaccine Anthem

And we will always love Dolly Parton.

The singer-songwriter shared a video of herself receiving the COVID-19 vaccine on Twitter last night, and she included a fitting new version of her hit song "Jolene." In the caption, Parton wrote: "Dolly gets a dose of her own medicine."

Parton's witty caption references the part she played in getting the vaccine produced. Last year, Parton donated 1 million dollars to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, a site that was crucial in performing research for the Moderna vaccine.

In the video, Parton says, "I'm very happy that I'm going to get my Moderna shot today and I wanted to tell everybody, I think you should get out there and do it too. I even changed one of my songs to fit the occasion."

Parton then proceeds to sing the tune of her hit "Jolene," but with a more suitable set of lyrics.

"Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vacciiiiiine / I’m begging of you please don’t hesitate / Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vacciiiiiine / ‘Cause once you’re dead then that’s a bit too late," she croons.

The idea may have come to Parton from tweets that circulated back when word got out that she donated to the cause.

For instance, Tim Long (a writer for The Simpsons) tweeted back in November, "Pfizer should hire Dolly Parton to sing "Vaccine" to the tune of "Jolene" and then EVERYONE would take it."

Parton, who has never been a stranger to philanthropy, seems to have taken Long's advice.
