It's hard to imagine a time when Kate Pearson, ahem, Chrissy Metz from This Is Us, wasn't recognized the minute she walked in the door. But ask the 38-year-old actress about how she felt when she got to make her first big splurge after landing her gig on the NBC series and she'll tell you: not great.
According to Metz, she'd found a purse and fell in love with it, but when she went to ring it up at the register—her first-ever paycheck newly deposited—there was a problem.
“My bank thought there was a fraudulent charge because it cost more than $50, so they were like alert, alert!” she recalls in an exclusive chat in PureWow's New York City office as part of Turbo's #RealMoneyTalk initiative, which encourages taking charge of your financial health. “I had to call my manager, then spent two hours there before I could leave with the bag.” (For reference, Metz has famously discussed the fact that she had 81 cents in her bank account before she got snapped up for her role on This Is Us.)
Her lesson learned? “Make sure what you're buying is really worth it and not just a thing to have,” she says.
