EXCLUSIVE: Chrissy Metz Reveals If Kate Pearson Is Ready for Motherhood on ‘This Is Us’

Season three of This Is Us has presented Kate (Chrissy Metz) with her biggest hurdle to date: pregnancy. However, is the character truly ready to be a mom?

We recently sat down with the 38-year-old actress to discuss everything from her new initiative for Turbo #RealMoneyTalk to Kate’s future on the popular NBC series.

While the character evolves from her past struggles—like Jack’s death and her miscarriage in season two—Metz revealed that Kate is slowly learning “to put the oxygen mask on herself. She’s figuring all of that out. She’s trying to figure out how to be in a relationship and it’s hard. She’s like, “OK, now let’s try having a baby.”

Metz went on to explain how Kate’s hardships are preparing her for what’s to come, adding, “All of the lessons that she’s learned, discovering things and uncovering with the shame and the guilt about her father and her father’s death that she’s in a good place to be strong. And through Toby’s depression and through all the things that are really uncertain, just being like ‘OK, I’m capable of this.’ She’s proving it to herself, which she’s never done before.”

Although she teased a “difficult journey” ahead, we can’t wait to see Kate take on motherhood (and diapers). This Is Us returns to NBC tomorrow, March 5, at 9 p.m.
