It’s no secret that Kevin (Justin Hartley) could use a hug after his relapse in season three, episode 12 of This Is Us. As much as we’d like to see the character learn from his mistakes, this brand-new trailer for the next installment is hinting at yet another downward spiral.
NBC released a teaser after last night’s episode of the popular series, which focused on Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) and her childhood dream of becoming a dancer.
The trailer opens on Rebecca (Mandy Moore) watching old VHS tapes of Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) before meeting a potential new love interest (gasp!) at the hardware store.
The clip goes on to show Kevin struggling to maintain his sobriety, followed by pregnant Kate (Chrissy Metz) getting rushed into the emergency room on a stretcher.
“Everything can change in an instant,” the trailer says.
Although last night’s episode focused on Beth’s backstory, the previous installment left us with a gut-wrenching scene. It all started when Kevin tried to help Jack’s brother, Nick (Griffin Dunne), who claimed he couldn’t be “fixed.”
When Kevin returned to his trailer, Nick wasn’t there. So, Kevin grabbed an open bottle of liquor and took a swig.
With that in mind, the trailer for the next episode left us with several questions. First of all, why is Kate in the hospital? The teaser shows Kevin struggling to keep his cool at a party where alcohol is being poured. So, did he secretly drink and get behind the wheel, resulting in Kate being sent to the hospital?
Furthermore, how will this impact Kevin’s sobriety? It’s no secret that Kevin and Kate are extremely close. And if the teaser is any indication, it appears Kate’s hospital visit is just the thing to send Kevin over the edge.
How will the Pearsons handle Kevin’s relapse? Guess we’ll have to wait until This Is Us returns to NBC on Tuesday, March 5, at 9 p.m.
