Britney Spears Gets Candid, Saying She Wants to Steer Clear of the Music Industry for a While

These past few months have been quite the whirlwind for Britney Spears.

As court proceedings moved forward regarding the conservatorship that Spears has been under for 13 years, her struggle became highly publicized as numbers grew within the #FreeBritney movement and multiple documentaries were released that highlighted her case.

Then, in early September, Spears's father filed documents petitioning to end the conservatorship, marking a major win for the singer. Only a few days later, Spears announced her engagement to her boyfriend of many years, Sam Asghari.

Understandably, all of these events are marking a significant change in Spears's life, and she got candid about these shifts in her latest Instagram post. “I'll just be honest and say I've waited so long to be free from the situation I’m in...and now that it's here I'm scared to do anything because I'm afraid I'll make a mistake,” she wrote.

She continued, “For so many years I was always told if I succeeded at things, it could end...and it never did!!! I worked so hard but now that it's here and getting closer and closer to ending I'm very happy but there's a lot of things that scare me.”

As a part of her healing, Spears said she needs to take some time away from the industry. She wrote, “In the meantime...I’m staying clear of the business which is all I’ve ever known my whole life...which is why this is so very confusing for me.”

Spears explained that she continues encountering problems with paparazzi, but she is looking for small ways to find joy in her life.

In the photo she shared, a giant Christmas tree is seen sitting in her living room. Spears explained the tree in the end of her caption, saying, “I’m celebrating Christmas way early this year...because why not???!!! I believe any reason to find more joy in life is a good idea...and it’s no secret that I’ve been through it in the past...so I might have to do things a little differently from now on.”

We wish you all the best, Britney.
