Britney Spears Just Had a Major Win in Her Legal Battle & Fellow Celebs Showed Their Support on Social Media

It looks like Britney Spears just achieved a major breakthrough in her ongoing court case.

If you were unaware, the “Baby One More Time” singer has been under a conservatorship since 2008, when her father, Jamie Spears, was put in control of major aspects of her life, including her finances and career decisions.

For the last few years, Spears has been pushing her father to step down from the role, and the legal battle was recently publicized due to the growth of the #FreeBritney movement, documentaries like Framing Britney Spears and support from fellow celebs.

Now, it looks like Spears may have found some success, according to documents that were filed by her father's attorney yesterday afternoon. The papers, which were first shared by TMZ, said: “Mr. Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter's new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator.”

While Spears did not acknowledge the moment on her Instagram, she posted a graphic of a girl wrapped in flowers with a butterfly on her shoulder. Users left comments on the post, saying, “We’re one step closer to your freedom!!!!! #FREEBRITNEY.” Only a few hours prior, Spears had posted a dancing video where she said, “Letting go is freedom!!!!”

Upon hearing the news, many fellow celebrities sent their congratulations and well-wishes to the superstar, including Ryan Reynolds, Dionne Warwick, Paris Hilton and others.

Reynolds refashioned the poster for his new movie, Free Guy, on his Instagram Story, so that it was more fitting for Spears's situation. “Free Gal” it read alongside a snap of Reynolds holding a Britney flag.
